Jeff,

I could not agree with you more. As someone who is struggling explaining value to clients of late I think I may start referring them to this post. (maybe).

Jeff,
Enjoyed the post. I always have fun reading the articles and posts by photographers who feel threatened by 'The Amateur'. It's nice to see that you have a more objective view of this issue than some.

Being relatively so knew to the Pro photography field my perspective is certainly different from most established pros. I don't know what it used to be like, so I can only listen to stories. But the thing that always strikes me is that if a professional is scared of hobbyists taking too much of his/her work then it just seems that something was wrong in the first place. I agree with you entirely that a pro offers value an amateur can't, hence the different titles. . .

Newsflash - "to make a living as a photographer you have to provide a more valuable service than a hobbyist" excuse the sarcasm.

I'm a new subscriber, like the blog, keep it up.

The book is interesting. I don't agree with everything in it, and the author takes some extreme point of views at times. But overall, I think it is on the mark.

Hey Jeff. I just read your article on "The Amateur and Our Culture". I absolutely agree. It's funny, I just had this conversation with an art director yesterday. I'm also looking forward to reading "The Cult of the Amateur".
